Despite the multiple challenges of this season, Richmond LAND wants to help spread some connection, joy, and holiday cheer in North Richmond in a safe and physically distant way.
Starting Saturday, December 19th through January 6th (3 Kings Day) Richmond LAND will be hosting a holiday light display inspired by the collective art activity “What We Deserve” and the poem by and for North Richmond Residents titled “Love & Dignity”.
The light display is taking place on one of the former Las Deltas public housing sites to speak to the fundamental need for love, dignity, and home! As the Housing Authority is getting ready to sell the Las Deltas public housing sites, we want to reimagine these homes as places of community care and a source of joy. If we can transform North Richmond into the North Pole, imagine what else we could do together to develop our community vision on these public lands?
Now more than ever our communities need to feel a sense of belonging and a source of pride. The Holiday Light Display will be an experience the entire neighborhood can enjoy.
Please spread the word to friends and family, stop by, enjoy, and wear a mask! As a part of this holiday light series, we are giving away FREE 3-D holiday glasses to amplify the display experience with snowman, snowflakes, gingerbread images, and more.
As you take in the decorations we invite you to imagine and think: what do I want to see happen here? What does my community need? What do we deserve? And please let us know if you’d like to get involved in our work!
